Beginning of the restoration of the Obelisk of Luxor
As part of the of the bicentenary of the deciphering of hieroglyphics by Champollion, the restoration of the Obelisk of Luxor, in the centre of Place de la Concorde in Paris, just started. The restoration project lauched at the initiative of the French Ministry of Culture, in collaboration with the Louvre Museum and assigned to the DRAC Île-de-France, was made possible thanks to a patronage of competences with the company Kärcher. The works will be completed this summer. Thanks to the partnership established with the École nationale supérieure des Beaux-Arts de Paris, a call for proposals among students and graduates of the school enabled the artist Jonathan Sobel, who graduated in 2021, to create the tarpaulin and construction palisades reflecting the history of the monument and its universal character.
