« Les métamorphoses du Grand Palais », an exceptional documentary on the construction of the Grand Palais.

Just a few days before the launch of the Paris 2024 Olympic Games, the Grand Palais is completing the biggest renovation in its history, and this event has been immortalised by film-maker Stefan Cornic, who has been following the metamorphosis over the last two years.

His documentary ‘Les métamorphoses du Grand Palais’, broadcast on France 5, puts the building's recent transformations into perspective with the countless events it has hosted since its inauguration in 1900.

This film offers a unique behind-the-scenes look at the restoration work, revealing the new circulation spaces, the meticulous restoration of the mosaics and roof sculptures, and the impressive volumes revealed by the demolition work.

Made alongside the workers and our team at Chatillon Architectes, this documentary reveals the challenges and successes of this monumental project. The story is set against the rich history of this 120-year-old building, which has hosted art exhibitions, motor shows, a military hospital and many other events.

In the run-up to the 2024 Olympic Games, when the Grand Palais will host the fencing and taekwondo competitions, this film is a reminder of the central role played by this monument in the cultural life of Paris. The building is due to reopen in autumn 2024, followed by the major exhibitions in June 2025.
